Ptarmigan - Lagopus muta

The ptarmigan is only found on the very high slopes of Scotland’s mountains. In the summer months, its plumage is a mixture of grey, brown and black on top with white undersides, the female being more brown than the male. In winter, the plumage becomes white, except for its tail and eye-patch.Adaptations to living at these altitudes include feathered feet!
